Ones to watch: Fashion Muse & “Scream Queen”, Victoria Pedretti, Is Just Getting Started
From the complexity of human beings to meeting Mary J Blige, we sit down with Victoria Pedretti to talk upcoming projects she will be getting her teeth into and directing and producing, as well as all the other pots she currently has boiling.
Submerging herself into the worlds of her characters, so much so she’s been dubbed the new “scream queen” of the horror TV and film genre, Victoria Pedretti has quickly become one to watch; shooting to the top and gaining herself a growing fanbase - almost instantaneously - for both her sterling performances (Love Quinn forever!) and her already-documented-on-Pinterest effortless style. (We’re not joking, there’s many boards!) And with two films yet to be released - an adaptation based on Isabel Wilkerson's book, “Caste”, and a re-write of the award-winning short film, “Ponyboi” - we’re sure there’s going to be even more material to strengthen the love for her.
Hold on tight and keep your eyes peeled, because there’s plenty more to come from this dream girl…
PIBE: So far we’ve seen you take on somewhat ‘darker’, complex characters in your most recent roles, but is there a certain type of character you’ve always wanted to embody on screen? And could this be something that’s in the pipeline for you?
VP: I want to play every kind of character. I believe all characters ought to be complex because human beings are complex... and honestly all have a darkness. So I would suspect all the characters I play forever will carry these qualities.
Can you tell us about any “pinch me” moments you’ve had in your career so far?
VP: Mary J Blige walked into a conference room where I was being held in for my first press event. I could not speak to her. My friend Mia, who did my makeup, was handing me tissues because I was crying with glee like "you still need to get out there".
To get into character for an upcoming piece, how do you tap into that person? Is it different every time? Or do you have a specific strategy or game plan?
VP: Everything is different. I start with research. A lot of research. Submerging myself in their world.
Since we’ve heard you being referred to as the “scream queen” inside the horror genre, what do you feel earns you this title or reputation?
VP: I do not think that is for me to decide. That is something other people have decided I earned.
Can we have any sneaky insight as to what you’re working on at the moment? What can we expect to see from Victoria next?
VP: Recently I've been in two films, Ponyboi and Caste, and I am working on a short I am directing and producing. Very excited for all of that. Lots of pots boiling. Lots to be excited about and look forward to.
